PENNESHAW,
situated on picturesque Hog Bay, is a small coastal town with a population of around 350 people and has KI's sole connection to the mainland for vehicular traffic via ferry. A French scientific expedition landed here in 1803 and left an indelible reminder of their visit at Frenchman's Rock.

CHAPMAN'S RIVER
spills out via Lashmar Lagoon on to Antechamber Bay. A stroll along the river is often rewarded with schools of bream and mullet keen to receive handfuls of supplied fish food. There are wonderful views of Antechamber's long wide beach with the mainland as background.

CAPE WILLOUGHBY
has South Australia's first lighthouse, built in 1852. The observation platform at the top presents perfect views of the "Backstairs Passage", "The Pages" Islands, Cape St. Alban's Lighthouse and the Cape Jervis and Deep Creek Conservation Park. Nearby Windmill Beach is worth a visit.

PENNINGTON BAY
is one of the most beautiful bays on the Island. It forms part of the Flinders Isthmus, only hundreds of metres wide, which connects Dudley Peninsula to the main part of the Island. This bay is a regular surf-fishing spot and also a popular surfing destination.

American River and Pelican Lagoon.
Along the edge of Pelican Lagoon you can observe a wide variety of birdlife, including pelicans, black swans, musk ducks, cormorants, superb blue wrens and sometimes even the elusive osprey. A feature of American River is the magnificent carpet of freesias which bloom at the end of August.
