PREPARATION NOTES
FOR YOUR VISIT TO KANGAROO ISLAND
ROAD CONDITIONS
Kangaroo Island road surfaces vary between sealed, gravelled, formed and bush-tracks. The main roads from Penneshaw to Kingscote, and a ring route between Kingscote and Flinders Chase National Park are sealed. However, many roads in the Eastern, Western and Northern sides of the Island are not sealed, but with careful driving they are quite safe. Unsealed surfaces comprise round ironstone gravel which is prone to corrugation and collects at roadsides making speed driving extremely hazardous and slippery. Some unsealed roads are closed in wet weather so it pays to check with Council before driving in more remote areas. Take care on all roads to avoid colliding with wildlife particularly from early evening to early morning.
BANKING FACILITIES
There are several ATM outlets on Kangaroo Island: at Bank SA, ANZ bank and Ozone Hotel in Kingscote; and at the Parndana Hotel. Eftpos facilities are available in most shops and after hours at most service stations in Kingscote.
