TRAVELLING TO KANGAROO ISLAND
These are your main options for travelling to Kangaroo Island:
FLY TO KINGSCOTE FROM ADELAIDE
The quickest way to travel to Kangaroo Island is by air into Kingscote Airport with Regional Express Airlines. For bookings phone 13 17 13 or visit their website at www.rex.com.au.
When you arrive at Kingscote Airport,
hire cars are available, if prebooked, and it's just a 10-minute drive to Kingscote and Island Court. If you do not have transport, we
provide transfers to and from the airport for Aus$ 15.00 each way.
TRAVEL TO KINGSCOTE FROM ADELAIDE BY COACH/CAR AND FERRY
Another option for travelling to Kangaroo Island is via coach or car on the ferry. In summer there are four regular trips to and from the Island each day, two in the morning and two in the afternoon. During the peak periods further sailings are scheduled, but these are not released until the regular sailings are fully booked. In Winter, there are two regular trips to and from the Island each day, one in the morning and one at night each way. The trip from Adelaide to Kingscote takes approximately 4 hours. The timetable is set out below for your information.
Booking the Coach and/or Ferry Service
We can organise your Coach and/or Ferry bookings for you at a reduced rate.
To help us provide you with accurate information, please let us know:
- the names of each passenger
- the age of children travelling with you
- if bringing a car, the type of car,i.e. Holden Commodore and the State it is registered in
- your preferred times for catching the ferry to and from the Island.
If travelling to Cape Jervis by coach, you would meet the coach at the Franklin Street bus terminal in Adelaide to arrive at Cape Jervis for either the 9 o'clock morning ferry or the 6 o'clock evening ferry. On arriving in Penneshaw you would transfer on the shuttle service to Kingscote - they will drop you off right in front of Island Court Holiday Units.
Returning to Adelaide by coach, you would be collected by the shuttle service from Island Court to meet up with the 8.30 morning ferry or the 7.30 evening ferry. During some months of the year there are changes to the regular scheduled times, when routine maintenance is carried out on the ferries.

SELF DRIVE HOLIDAY ON KANGAROO ISLAND
This is the most popular way for people to visit Kangaroo Island, as it allows independent travel and the ability to visit many more attractions than are provided by daily tour operators in scheduled tours. Despite the poor reputation of the Island's road surfaces, the main roads are now sealed. The remaining dirt roads are normally accessible by car (ie a 4WD is not a necessity), unless affected by heavy rain in the wetter months of the year. Take your time and drive carefully and you should have no problems.
HIRING A CAR
Many mainland car rental companies will not allow their vehicles to be driven on Kangaroo Island, mainly because of the dirt road surfaces and wildlife. There are a few Adelaide-based companies that allow hire cars on the island, specifically Thrifty Rent-a-Car and Koala Car Rentals. The only Kangaroo Island based car rental companies are:
| Hertz KI |
Kingscote Office: 08 8553 2390 Mobile: 0427 887 488
|
| Budget KI |

Types of vehicles and hire rates vary, so be sure to check each one out to make sure you get the best deal, or otherwise let us do the phoning for you, saving you time and money on phone calls. Our car rental companies are usually heavily booked, so do not leave your arrangements to the last minute or you may miss out!
STOPOVERS IN ADELAIDE - ACCOMMODATION
If you are coming to KI from further away in Australia or from overseas, you
will probably want to stay overnight (or longer) in Adelaide, so that you can
leave for the island early in the morning and make the most of your visit.
There are several Web sites that will help you find/arrange suitable accommodation. Some of our guests have recommended
